Our {"pop-up-shop"} Country Living Fair 2009

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Tidbits of our theatre theme, this "auricula" theatre to showcase prized flower specimens {the history of these date back to the 1700's} was made for our booth. {We used the theatre to set the stage for our puppets by Wendy Addison} Special thanks to a cousin who had these finished the week of the show. Made of cedar along with the towering obelisk planter 2 pics below, these are made for the outdoors.
Thank goodness this year we had an entrance and an exit, as last year you went out the same way you came in = traffic jam. Every year you fix things to make it better for you & your customers. One thing about being so busy is you are not on the selling floor helping the customers, no room first of all in a tent space & you feel like you're not getting to know the customer. Also, there is little time to do our wrapping the way we like it!
1st day of the show, bright & early. We thought the early bird buyers were allowed to be in by 8:00 am & we hoofed it to Lowes to buy Oak trees and boxwood. Out- of- breath we undid our tents to find out early bird pass was for 9:oo am. Oh, well at least we were able to finish things up that extra hour!
Evening before opening day........7pm & setting up "our pop-up-shop" since 12:30 that day. Thank goodness for Chipotle for giving us nourishment for dinner! Sun was shining in our tent and the paper bags of ribbon was yummy.
A little of this & that, merchandised from floor to ceiling in our "petite department store style"!

Wow, our 10x20 tent was packed so full we didn't even get all of it put out!
Haberdashery area........{didn't take as many photos as we would've like, that's what happens when your tired!}
The burlap pennants added a festive touch, perfect at a tent event.........
Our tent was more neutral this year and we loved it. There was a few subtle bursts of color here & there.
Wendy Addison's hand done goodies!
Vintage costume.........
We were able to locate a 30 meter roll of grain sack fabric. Thank goodness for a dear gal who searched through her warehouse and had it to us 3 days before. Oh, the red stripes!

Thanks for all the help, Grandma Karen, McKell, & Barbara......even though it was hard to work in our cramped sales clerk stations we had a ball!

Fun people got to meet in person: Jeni Bowlin, Tara Wilson {Texas gal}, & other lovely bloggers!
Thank you to all of the support............

{1}
We found these lovely eco-friendly food boxes. They are not the typical tacky styrofoam, instead the box has a simple, cream-y texture. The texture resembles linen. These were purchased at a bulk food/paper store, we have Gordon Foods in our area. We purchased these for gifts and for some of our kits we sell. {these would also be a great idea for a picnic in a box party!}
{2}
We filled the box with our natural paper shred and then laid 3 pieces of tissue paper, that we pleated and left the ends stick out {on the sides} after we closed the box. We wrapped ribbon around the box in two places, the tissue ends then are kept in place with the ribbon.
{3}
Top it off with a petite bouquet of fleurs, a bag of hair ribbons and vintage style barrettes and a banner printed from your computer. Secure banner in place with a corsage pin.

Since it's summer take fresh fruits and sweet corn along with the gift for the parents to enjoy.

Special thoughts for others and time out of your busy day = lots of appreciation!

Enjoy your day!

Dyed ribbon from Curious Sofa & books, may I recommend.......
*The New Eighteenth- Century Style, ummm this books leaves me speechless. the end.
*Lost Crafts, thatched roof anyone? Me, me!
Petite glittered trophy, I'm swooning!
Wrapped package of maps, sorry I'm enjoying the wrapping!

I enjoyed this store, you know I like a store when I go around the perimeter
about 100 times. That I did!

I also stopped at an antique mall on the way home
Artichoke Annie's {outside Columbia, MO right off I-70} and it was a good stop!
Thanks to Deb's shop girls for giving me the heads up.
I'm kicking myself for not buying a few things, but
husband+two small boys+ 1 million more miles to go="your 15 minutes are up"!
Cherries off our tree, that cute package & vintage linen
Lost Crafts book & spool of vintage unused pink crochet string. This string
will be perfect for tags that will be at the Country Living Fair.
Oh, dear we must get busy, Darcy!

Love, love original packaging!

I was feeling spunky and decided "why not?"
put this bag on the wall......
there are no rules in decorating, right?

Deb's shop girls tucked two bags together
to hold all my heavy books+goodies {yes, I supported the 3/50 project & all in one shop} and yippee another bag to recycle.....
on our bedroom door.
I tell ya the girl on the bag seems to say
"I'm peeking in on ya......have you started your chores yet?"
Then she replies with those eyes....."get busy"..........

gotta go the vacation laundry pile erupted.......

Happy May Day Baskets {endeavors}

{Endeavors}
Making May Day Baskets!

Make petite banner flags and fasten around
a decorative toothpick.
We used pink & white banners from Martha Stewart.
We picked up these sweet petite baskets from the $1.00 spot
at Target. We bought extra to use in organization as well.
Fill with shred add a sweet ribbon for a handle.
We used our number ribbon for the "1st of May"!
Use a decorative paper punch and punch two designs out.
Put the wrong sides together. Add a brad near the top of medallion, we used our petite diamond brad.
Now you have a card-like tag. Open.......
Add a second banner and use a corsage pin and poke through.....
Write a sentiment of your choice on banner.
Turn over and secure pin we used tiny vintage style tape to keep pin
from poking your recipients fingers!
Use a tiny hole punch to punch through medallion and
tie with twine through hole onto front of basket.
Put fresh flowers into basket, we used fragrant Viburnum.
Lilly- of- the -Valley would be lovely too......
Stick the banner into flowers.
{We tied a ribbon around toothpick and stamped
a hand holding a bird onto banner......
Ready to tuck on a special friend's doorknob,
now quick hurry away, don't let them see you!
The hand that gives is always blessed........

Happy May Day to all our friends!
